Tianjin Normal University (TNU) is situated in Tianjin, which is about seventy minutes from Beijing by train, and is one of the four municipalities governed directly by the central Chinese government. TNU, first founded in 1958, is now the only key university in Tianjin featuring teachers? training. Ambassadors from Beijing embassies and senior educational officials as well as some Chinese-speaking-contest winners were once educated under its care. It has been granted the privilege of being one of the 94 universities to admit international students funded by the Chinese Government Scholarship Programs. It is the Key Research Base for Humanities Studies funded by the Education Ministry of China. It is also one of the 9 authorized training universities involved in the China International Chinese Teacher’s Volunteer Program, one of the 16 hosting universities for the Confucius Institute as well as one of the universities in hosting the HSK (Chinese Proficiency) Test in China.

TNU now offers 56 BA/BSc programs, 11 primary subject conference point master programs, 96 secondary subject conference point doctorate programs, 3 primary subject conference point doctorate program, and 22 secondary subject conference points for doctorate programs. There are nearly 40,000 students at TNU. The university’s library has a collection of more than 2,000,000 volumes, maintaining in an area of 680,000 square metres of its campuses as a whole. It has already developed broad intercollegiate collaborative exchanges with more than fifty-two universities from twenty different countries around the world.
TNU is progressing towards achieving a status as a first-rate comprehensive university with teaching and scientific research as its features.
