About the Asian Center for
Asian Women's Studies
The Asian Center for Women's
Studies is dedicated to international exchanges in theories
and practice of Women's Studies. The center strives for
solidarity while maintain respect for the diversity of
experience and Identities of Asian women. Over the past
decade, the center has conducted international workshops,
seminars and research involving feminist scholars form 8
different Asian countries including China, India, Indonesia,
Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand.
About the Summer Lecture Session in 2006
The Summer Lecture Session
aims to provide a forum where ideas about methodology and
the development of teaching materials can be articulated and
crystallized through the presentation of sample lectures. It
reflects the vision which has directed the center's previous
endeavors , such as the publication of the Women's Studies
textbook from 8 Asian countries, and the 2002 International
workshop, “Understanding Sexualities in Asia.” This vision
was established in accordance with the local, historical and
cultural contexts of Asia.
The 2006 Summer Lecture
Session, which will take place from June 28 th to 30 th ,
will examine the topic, "The Politics of Feminist Knowledge
Production in Asian Countries." The program includes
lectures by Tani, E. Barlow, Professor in the Department of
Women Studies and History, University of Washington;
presentations by research scholars participating in the
projects in the area of Asian Women Studies; presentations
by young feminists; and on-site visits.
Lecture Description
The 2006 Summer Lecture
Session will be held over 3 days and will include 3
lectures, a guest speaker's lecture, young feminists'
presentation and onsite visits. We hope that each of these
will provide an opportunity to learn through an interaction
of ideas for all the participants.

Cancellations received on or by 30 May,
2006 will receive a 50% refund of the tuition fee. No
refunds will be given after 30 May, 2006. The application

Scholarship Program
Scholarship Application Instruction
and Notification
- Application forms of scholarship and
proposals must be submitted by May 13,2006
- The committee will consider
your proposals before the results will be announced
individually by the time of May 20,2006. In addition, if
confirmed for presentation, registration is due by June 3.
- Recipients of scholarship
must hand in the short reports on the experiences of
participation after the Summer Lecture Session.
